Limited Batches
Not everything we design makes it into the permanent lineup. Some experiments are too rare to scale. Some profiles are too unusual to fit a standard tier. Some harvests yield just enough for a single run. Limited Batches is where those specimens live — released in small quantities, documented in full, and never repeated.
Rare Blends
The standard Scoville Splice lineup is built on capsaicinoid ratios optimized for consistent heat curves and broad flavor appeal. Limited Batches breaks that constraint. These are experimental ratios — capsaicin-heavy profiles paired with trace amounts of homodihydrocapsaicin, or nordihydrocapsaicin pushed to dominance in blends where it’s usually a background player. The results are heat experiences you won’t find in the permanent collection: faster onsets, longer plateaus, unusual anatomical targeting, and flavor profiles that challenge conventional pepper taxonomy.
Seasonal Releases
Each season brings a new limited release tied to harvest cycles and ongoing research. Spring drops tend toward single-plant phenotype selections — specimens grown from a specific genetic line that showed promise in the computational model but wasn’t selected for the permanent lineup. Summer and autumn releases lean experimental: novel extraction methods, unconventional capsaicinoid blends, or collaborative projects with partner growers. Winter closes each year with a reserve release, the specifics of which are announced just two weeks before the drop.
Single-Plant Phenotype Selections
Some of the most interesting specimens come from individual plants that express a phenotype the computational model flagged as exceptional. These aren’t averaged across a crop — they’re the output of a single organism, harvested in a single cycle, and processed in a single batch. Yields are inherently tiny. Every unit ships with full provenance documentation: the seed lot identifier, environmental conditions during growth, harvest date, extraction parameters, and a complete analytical panel showing the capsaicinoid breakdown by mass.
Collector Editions
Collector editions package limited specimens with extended documentation — the kind of data that doesn’t fit on a standard label. Each edition includes a printed provenance card with the specimen’s full analytical profile, a QR-linked digital certificate with batch-level traceability, and archival-grade packaging designed for long-term storage. These are the specimens for people who care as much about the data as the heat.
Upcoming & Past Concepts
The following releases represent the seasonal cadence we’re building toward. Specific specimens and configurations will be announced as each drop approaches.
Spring
Harvest 001 — Single-Plant Phenotype
A Tier 8 specimen grown from a single phenotype selection that exhibited an unusual dihydrocapsaicin-dominant profile. Limited to the yield of one plant cycle. Full provenance data included: seed lot, growth conditions, harvest date, and analytical panel.
Summer
Solstice Blend
An experimental ratio blending capsaicin and nordihydrocapsaicin at proportions not found in the standard lineup. Designed to produce a slow-building heat with an unusually long plateau — the kind of profile that doesn’t survive committee review for a permanent tier.
Autumn
Cold Extraction Series
Specimens processed at sub-ambient temperatures to preserve volatile aromatics normally lost in standard extraction. The result is a lower-SHU specimen with dramatically more flavor complexity — heat takes a back seat to terroir.
Winter
Year-End Reserve
The final limited release of each calendar year. Configuration varies — sometimes a rare capsaicinoid ratio, sometimes a single-source specimen, sometimes a blend that revisits a discontinued experiment. Details announced two weeks before the drop.
